The Star Observer has been the trusted, independent journal of record for Australia’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex (LGBTI) communities since 1979. We educate and inform the LGBTI and heterosexual community about the issues which affect us, from politics and civil rights to health, arts, culture and sport. Every one of our journalists is committed to complying with the Journalists’ Code of Ethics; fiercely independent, we strive for accuracy, integrity and balance in everything we do. We shine a light on LGBTI persecution and highlight inequalities around the world; with the largest team of journalists covering LGBTI issues in Australia our investigative stories ensure governments, agencies, corporations and individuals are held to account. Our publications support the LGBTI community by celebrating our diversity, sharing our stories and providing a voice for the marginalised. We highlight the achievements of our community leaders, our elders and our popular heroes and we provide community organisations a platform to promote their activities, connect with our community and trumpet their successes. We enjoy the highest audited circulation of any gay & lesbian newspaper in the country and every week print editions of the paper are distributed throughout New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland. Our website and social media channels are updated throughout the day, reaching a highly engaged audience across Australia and around the world. Gay & Lesbian Community Publishing Limited (the company that publishes The Star Observer) is a not-for-profit organisation, 100% owned by LGBTI community members; profits from our business are used to strengthen and expand the operation of our company and our community. Our publications are fully audited and our accounts are presented to our community shareholders at annual general meetings. Our social media policy can be viewed on the Star Observer website: http://www.starobserver.com.au/about/social-media-policy
